Urnes style 1050-1125

The Urnes style takes it name from one of the famous Late Viking Age stave churches in Norway, the Urnes stave church. Stave churches are iconic remnants of a past where Christianity was well underway to be adopted even in Northern Europe. Following up on the Ringerike style, the Urnes style continues the merge of Viking Age animal art, now also mixed with Christian elements. Crosses and stylish organic leaves and branches are neatly interwoven with elongated dragon like figures. You also find this style on most runestones throughout Sweden.
