Tattoo aftercare

In the case of medical plastics:

If you have medical tape on your tattoo, leave the tape in place for 3-4 days. During these days, the tape should completely cover the tattoo. A small amount of dye and wound fluid often collects under the tape, which is completely normal.
When you remove the plastic, pull it off slowly under running water. Wash the tattoo thoroughly with perfume-free soap and water afterwards. Some people may experience a little redness in their skin after the plastic, this is completely normal.

Plastic wrap:

If you have regular plastic wrap, leave the plastic on for about 6 hours, or until the next morning. Wash thoroughly with perfume-free soap and water afterwards. When the plastic (regardless of which one) is to be removed, the tattoo should be washed with perfume-free soap and water 2-3 times/day.

Do not cover the tattoo yourself.

The tattoo should be kept protected from the sun during the healing period. Avoid swimming, saunas, exercise, etc. during healing.
If desired, you can moisturize the tattoo as the skin heals with cream. But don't apply too much or too often. If you do apply it to your tattoo, make sure you have fresh products and good hand hygiene. Maintain good hygiene and avoid tight clothing, jewellery, etc. that may rub against your tattoo.

Flaking and fever

The tattooed skin will flake for up to a week or so. These flakes should come off on their own. Do not pick or scratch it while it is healing. It is normal to have a slight fever the same day of a larger tattoo. This in itself is not dangerous. However, if you develop a fever the next day and experience swelling, a throbbing sensation or general discomfort, contact your tattoo artist in the first instance or a healthcare provider.

If you want your tattoo to stay as beautiful as possible, use sunscreen on it, especially in the first year before the skin has fully recovered.
